A Short Film a Day
For The Birds
by Ralph Eggleston
Short Films are extremely important to us, which is why one of our top priorities this year is covering a short film every day. While we’re starting the first thirty days on the site with fairly well known short films, we would like to get as many submissions as possible quickly. If you or someone you know has made a short film, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Well, it’s about time I got to a Pixar short film.
I’m not someone who thinks Pixar is flawless. I’ve been less than thrilled with a couple of their feature films, and there’s 2 that I haven’t even seen. Their short films, however, have an amazing batting average.
There isn’t much to say about this actual short film. It is only 3 minutes long and a pretty simple story. The one thing that does always strike me is how the shorts that Pixar puts in front of features often feel connected to the feature to me. Seeing the feathers in For The Birds makes me think of all the work that Pixar had to do to go get Sulley’s fur right in Monster’s. Inc. and how Partly Cloudy set the stage so perfectly for the first act of Up.
For The Birds is directed by Ralph Eggleston, who has been in the art department for 6 Pixar features. He also voices the Bird.
